The Design Process
What kind of gardens do we work on?
All shapes, sizes and situations – town and country, courtyards, estates and window boxes!
A tiny garden does not mean a boring garden. Some of the most interesting and successful areas can be
created within a limited space.
What kind of features do we design?
All types of features could be included in your garden, from decks to water features, depending on what you want and what we think would be appropriate.
And we can recommend the best specialists in their field to undertake the construction of the features.
What style of garden will you get?
Perhaps the question more appropriately is; what style of house do you have? We will always endeavour to produce a garden design
which suits your home and its surroundings. The most successful gardens are created this way.
Within these bounds, however, there is usually a good degree of lee-way to create a garden style which suits you. The design process is very much a collaboration between designer and client.
Overall, we tend to specialise in designs where foliage features strongly, and is used to create contrasts of colour, movement and light and shade.
In creating these effects, we use a broad mix of plant types, from grasses through evergreens to hardy exotics, with a structural backbone of planting to give year-round interest.
The Design Process
The process normally starts with a phone call or e-mail from you, at which time we can discuss your requirements in general terms.
An initial site visit will follow, when we will ask you more detailed questions about your preferences (if any!) to get a rough idea
of what is required – plus a budget from you for the whole project, if you wish to set one.
Within a few days, you will receive a quotation for the design work, broken down into the various components from which you can select the items you need.
If the quotation is acceptable to you, we'll then produce some concept drawings (or 3d visualisations!) for you to approve and fine-tune.
Once you are happy, we will then draw up the full design package.
The Final Package will depend on which options you have selected from our list but it will often include scale drawings, constructional notes,
plant positions with maintenance schedule, materials quantities, positions and types of light fittings and so on.
We can then help you manage your project, supply your plants and install your garden lighting scheme – whatever suits your requirements.
